Asma Almuna

In a small house, lived an old blind man with his three daughters. The two elder daughters treated their father cruelly. On day, he asked the two of them to make lunch and they put dirt and mud in his bowl. The youngest daughter tried to warren her father but the elder daughters forced her to keep silent. When the blind man went to the neighborhood, people told that there is dirt in his beard. The blind man realized the reason behind the strange taste of the food and understands the warning of his youngest daughter.
He went back to the house and called his daughters. He asked them to follow him to the great Seder tree which he usually would not let anyone get near it. He hit the branches of the tree with his stick and asked his elder daughters to collect the falling fruits. Despite his warning to her, the youngest girl rushed to collect the fruits with her sisters. Suddenly, the three of them fall into an old- dry well that was hidden under the tree.
When they woke up, shouted for help but in vain. They felt hungry and thirsty, so the elder sisters yelled,'' oh God we are thirsty, oh God we are thirsty.'' They shouted and shouted until they were desperate. '' Shout with us perhaps someone will hear us,'' said one of them to the youngest sister.
'' Oh God we are thirsty, oh God we are thirsty,'' cried the youngest sister.
Pots of water appeared in front of them out of nowhere, suddenly. The elder sisters drank their fill then broke the pots into pieces. The youngest sister collected what was left at the broken pots and drank it. '' Thank you Allah…I drank more than the two of you,'' she said to her sisters.
A while later, the elder sisters felt hungry so they called," oh God we are hungry, oh Gad we are hungry."
But again nothing happened. They asked the youngest sister to try. '' oh God we are hungry, oh Gad we are hungry," she yelled.
A big plate of rice with saffron appeared in front of them. The elder sister ate it all and left nothing to the youngest sister. She collected the remains from the floor and ate. '' Thank you Allah. I ate more than the two of you,'' she said to her sisters.
The night came with its cold. '' Oh God we are cold. Oh God we are cold,'' the elder sisters cried but nothing happened.
'' Oh God we are cold. Oh God we are cold,'' cried the youngest sister.
Warm fabric with beautiful colors appeared, so the elder sister took what they need and made themselves warm clothes. The youngest sister grabbed the remains and stitched them together to make a dress for herself. '' Thank you Allah. My dress is better than yours,'' she said to her sisters.
Morning came and people went to their jobs. The sisters head footsteps coming toward the well. '' Whoever gets me out, I will be his wife. Whoever gets me out, I will be his wife,'' cried the older sister.
It was the builder son and he got the older sister out and took her as his wife.
Hours later, they heard another footstep. '' Whoever gets me out, I will be his wife. Whoever gets me out, I will be his wife,'' cried the second sister.
It was the lumberjack son and he got the second sister out and took her as his wife.
Long hours passed then the youngest sister heard footsteps of a lot of horses. . '' Whoever gets me out, I will be his wife. Whoever gets me out, I will be his wife,'' she cried.
It was the son of the sultan with his soldiers and horses. He took her out and was amazed by her beauty and good manners, so he married her.
Years went on and each one of the elder sister had a daughter. The sultan's wife gave birth to girl also and named her '' Asma Almuna.''
The people of the country were so happy by their sultan's daughter. They were even happier with her kindness and good manners. She would visit them and play with their children. One day, she was playing with her aunts' daughter without knowing that they were her cousins. They felt jealous of their cosine and the luxury life she had with her mother. They knew how to get rid of her after they asked the witch of the village. So that day, they brought a small bag filled with salt. They asked Asma Almuna to take a punch of it with her left hand. The moment she did, she collapsed. The villagers gathered around her trying to wake her up but in vain. They did not know what happened to her.
Asma Almuna is dead. The word spread in the country and sadness overwhelmed the village. Her parents were in deep sorrow and could not believe it. Her father sought the help of some people and they told him to put her in a wooden box at the back of a camel. Thus, he put her in a camel named (Thorn).
Thorn walked and walked until it reached another country. It fed itself from their fields at night and hide in the morning. The people were angry. They did not know who ate their crops, so the son of the sultan of the country decided to lurk for the thief and catch him.
He saw the Thorn approaching and tried to catch it. But he slipped and falls on the ground and got wounded by a thorn. '' Oh a thorn wounded me,'' he cried in pain. To his surprise, the camel bleated. '' Thorn wounded me,'' he cried again. And the camel bleated again. He walked closer to the camel and said again,'' thorn wounded me.'' The camel bleated and he walked closer to it and seized it. He put the wooden box down and opened it. He found Asma Almuna lying inside and noticed the salt in her left hand. He brushed the salt away and immediately Asma Almuna opened her eyes. She was scared when she realized she wasn't in her country. She began to cry and rain began to fall. The more she cried the more it rains. The sultan's son put her back on Thorn to calm her down and find a shelter from the rain.
He finally, managed to calm her and she wiped her tears and nose. Silver stylets fall from the sky as she wiped her nose. The sultan's son was astonished. She laughed from the expression on his face and jewels and pearls fall from the sky as she laughed.
Everything stopped when she stopped crying and laughing. He realized her gift. If she cried, rain would fall! If she blew her nose, silver stylets would fall! If she laughed, pearls and jewels would fall!
He took her to his palace with her camel and he married her few days later. After a couple of years, they had a beautiful son. She wanted to visit her country. '' How will you go there if you don't know the way and you don't have a guide?,'' wondered her husband.
''Right. I don't know the way but surely Thorn knows the way,'' she replied.
So Asma Almuna rode on Thorn and head toward her country followed by soldiers and convoys. The sight of her country shocked her. The country severed droughts and everything was dry.
She walked toward some Bedouin women who were looking after their sheep. ''What happened to the country?'' she asked sadly. '' The rain has never come since the death of the sultan's daughter Asma Almuna,'' they replied.
Asma Almuna could not stop her tears and the rain started. The more she cried, the more it rained. She wiped her nose and silver stylet fall from the sky. The women were astonisher and they yelled,'' You are Asma Almuna?''
''The one and only,'' she whispered.
Under the rain Thorn walked carrying Asma Almuna and followed by soldiers. The Bedouin women shouted after her,'' Asma Almuna…Asma Almuna is a live… Asma Almuna is back.''
People gathered around her and the word spread to the Royal palace. Her parents rushed to meet her astonished and happy to see her. Once she saw them, she laughed and jewels and pearls fall from the sky. The people were overwhelmed with happiness and the country returned as green as it was.
